A sport can mean a lot more to someone than just an after school activity. Some players are so passionate about it that they plan to make a career of it. Others do it for the pure love of the game. Others just need a last minute resort for their PE credits. For the Verdugo Hills girls’ softball team, there’s a majority of reasons they play.
Desiree Marquez says, “It’s a connection I have with my family. My dad coaches, and my sisters play, so it’s just something my family has always connected over. It’s also how I’ve met a majority of my friends.”
Another player, Kelsey Sanford, said, “It’s a type of stress reliever for me, and it’s been a sport I’ve played since childhood. I also just genuinely enjoy doing it.”
Samantha Contreras said, “Softball is something I look forward to everyday. I also have a close connection to everyone on the team, including the coach, which makes it more than a sport.”
The entire team loves their sport. They not only enjoy the sport they play, but they take pride in playing it. Although they haven’t started their season, they’re looking forward to a strong beginning. They’re hoping for a successful season and are chasing after a championship ring.
